My mother-in-law was not a fan of stew. She told me on several occasions that stew is for people who are “too lazy to make soup”. I (respectfully) disagree with her opinion, and believe that stew is more practical for those days when I don’t have time to cut veggies into dainty little pieces to be gracefully slurped along with copious amounts of broth. Give me something thick and hearty. And sooner, rather than later!

Stovetop Roasted Garlic and Infused Oil
Summer is hot. And humid. And I don’t like heat. Or humidity. But I still like to cook! And eat! Summer is the perfect time to create dishes that don’t crank up the heat in the house, making the air/con work even harder, and making this girl even crankier.
Midwestern Teriyaki Chicken
Maybe Midwesterners have a reputation for bland food, but it’s totally not the truth. We love spicy food! This is not a Japanese teriyaki because I don’t usually have “sake” or “mirin” in the house. But there’s always Svedka vodka!
Roasted Garlic
Fresh garlic can be pretty pungent, but when it’s roasted, it is sweet, smooth, and a great addition to almost any dish. Since it takes about an hour to roast,
Roasted Vegetable Red Sauce
I am a “No New Year’s Resolutions” kind of gal. I don’t like the feeling of defeat when, only a few days into the year, I’ve already failed to improve myself. Maybe you are like me – just trying to live healthier and give more.
Pressure Cooker Mashed Potatoes
“Pressure” is one of those odd words in the English language. Sometimes used to describe physical force exerted, influence, or persuasion, this time of year we tend to think of stressful urgency. After all, isn’t that what cooking around holiday time seems to feel like?
Roasted Tomato and Garlic Bolognese Sauce
It is so much fun to see how Kristina has surpassed me – by light years – when it comes to cooking. She is creative and instinctive, and possesses the natural ability to invent adventurous (and wonderful!) culinary combinations.
Cheesy Sweet Potato and Broccoli Soup – Vegan
Sometimes it’s a little intimidating to try something new — traveling to a new country, riding motorcycle for the first time, starting a new job, skydiving (still haven’t tried that), exploring a new type of cooking…. It’s all a little unnerving.
Chicken and Mushrooms in Creamy White Wine Sauce
Julia Childs once said, “I enjoy cooking with wine, sometimes I even put it in the food…” In reality, it seems like all food is better when cooked with/in wine. Water and broth just don’t cut it. In order to achieve layers of flavour, some form of alcohol needs to be included. That’s just the way it is.
Simple Creamy Vegetable Soup
After some weekends (and holidays), it feels like I’ve eaten a bowling ball. You know what I mean??? The “food baby” makes me look about 6 months pregnant, and I have less energy than a dust bunny. That’s when I really need a morale booster, and something healthy to eat.
