Food, Family, Faith, and Fun — all wrapped up in one!
I have never enjoyed baking — too much measuring, math and accuracy is required, and it feels a little restrictive to me. Cooking is more free-form, while baking requires that I follow the rules in order to be successful. That’s where my rebellious nature kicks in:
“Don’t tell me what to do!”
One of the first gardens I planted was filled with every black flower I could find. This was somewhat of a fad during the Victorian era, which I find intriguing. Can you imagine elegant women in long, floofy dresses tending gardens? That might be as difficult as imagining ME working in flowerbeds. But I tried.
Without history we are infants. Of all intellectual pursuits, history is the most supremely useful. That is why people crave it and need ever more of it.

I some times wonder if I chose the wrong profession. Maybe I should have been an architect, a pilot, or possibly a chemist. I love design, travel, and experimenting. But alas, I hate math. So I’m a musician. This way I can count to 4, and start again….
Everybody loves a potluck. Midwestern churches are famous for them, offering dishes like green bean casserole, chinese noodle and hamburger hotdish, cheesy hashbrown bake, and green jello. 😋
I love antiques, vintage items, primitives, heirlooms, collectibles — whatever you want to call them. Anything that has seen life, and has been part of a story, finds a special place in my home.
We love Veggie Tales. I mean, how much fun is a bunch of gourds making up the wildly popular “Boyz in the Sink” band? Or silly songs about “crusin’ to Dunkin’ Donuts for a cup of steaming Joe in our sport utility vehicles…”?
Okay, so it’s not really a rice, but the only truly native North American grain. It grows in lakes and bays in relatively shallow water, and is harvested in the autumn.
Some times I long for simpler days. I even get twinges of nostalgia for the pioneer times – neighbours had to work together, houses were small and easy to maintain, divorce was unheard of, children didn’t stare at an iPad all day long, and mealtime was a family affair.
