One thing that bothers me about the state of Minnesota is the lack of oceanfront real estate. It’s more than a thousand miles every direction to reach a good ocean. We may have over 12,000 lakes, but not a single sea.

Winter Kale Salad
Winter in Minnesota usually means sweaters, slippers, and hands wrapped around a mug of something hot. Since I am not a huge fan of typical “comfort food”, I tend to make soups and stews. But sometimes even that can feel too heavy.
Italian Turkey and Ravioli Soup
The wind is howling, the temperature is dropping, the fire is crackling, the candles are glowing, and COMPANY IS COMING!
Jerk Chicken (or Pork)
It fascinates me that siblings – those who are born to the same two parents, grow up in the same household, with the same food, traditions, environments, etc. – can be SO different.
Gluten Free Flour Mix
This can replace regular flour in many baked goods. Mix up a batch of this, store it in an airtight container, and you will always be ready to bake something tasty.

Contact. Affiliation. Connection. Relationship. Alliance. Association. NETWORKING . . . .
They all sound like corporate buzzwords, and as such, pretty annoying. But, sometimes networking is crucial to success. And makes life so much simpler. Here’s my example:
Living in a small town has its perks —
Farmers’ Market Soup
Contrary to popular belief, not all women like to shop. Some of us feel like pimply, awkward teenagers every time we walk into a mall, and our anxiety nearly blows through the roof. A trip to Macy’s can trigger hyperventilation (I love that word). But at least there is some order at Macy’s – black sweaters of every size hang on one rack. The next rack is a sea of bluejeans. I can handle that.
Creamy Turkey & Fennel Soup
I love Thanksgiving. The turkey, family gatherings, laughter, turkey, seeing in-laws and new generations, and I really love the turkey. In fact, I’m not a huge fan of all the stuffing, gravies, cranberries, or green bean casseroles. It’s mostly the turkey I go for.
Bourbon Vinaigrette
I seriously DIS-like purchasing salad dressing. Seriously. Just look at the ingredients list. Look how many years before the expiration date. Gross! Look at how expensive it is. And then think about the delicious, budget-friendly, delicious, fresh, and DELICIOUS dressings you can make at home!
Bourbon Chicken
Last weekend we had some friends over for supper. I am totally in awe of this couple! They are brilliant business people, great parents, incredible food and wine connoisseurs – I would never dare call them “foodies” because it seems like too crass of a term for them – and they are extremely gracious. So gracious, in fact, that I dared serve them 3 recipes I had conjured up during a long and restless night. Friends like that are priceless!
